Detroit’s Social Mobility Center offers HUD-approved one-on-one housing counseling (pre-purchase, rent, post-purchase), group workshops on financial literacy and homeownership, free virtual Homebuyer Workshops, plus workforce development (soft-skills training, career coaching, resume assistance) and financial empowerment services (coaching, free credit reports, tax prep) matrixhumanservices.org.

Free, professional one-on-one counseling to tackle debt, build savings, improve credit, create budgets, and connect to safe banking—integrated with housing, workforce development, and benefits access. No income or residency limits detroitmi.gov.

Homeowners Property Exemption (HOPE) (detroitmi.gov/hope)
City of Detroit’s annual tax-exemption program for owner-occupied homes. HOPE can reduce or eliminate current-year property taxes based on income, includes Pay-As-You-Stay for delinquent taxes, and is paired with the Detroit Tax Relief Fund. Applications are filed online or via community-partner appointments detroitmi.gov.
